Dear Parents,

It’s Spring and the teachers and students are working hard to prepare for Recital. A few issues have come up that I would like to take a moment to address:

1) Proper Dance Attire:

I know it’s a busy time of year for everyone and there’s a lot of running from one activity to the next. This has resulted in students showing up to class wearing jeans and other ‘regular’ clothes instead of acceptable dance attire. I have been somewhat relaxed about this rule recently, but will not be for the remainder of the year. Dance clothes and proper shoes are required for your child to participate in class.

2) Food & Drinks In Class:

Some of you send your children with snacks and drinks. I do not mind if they eat their snacks in the lobby before or after class, but be advised, the students are not allowed to bring any drink (besides water) or any food into the studio. Aside from the annoyance of me having to clean up the messes left, spring has sprung and with that, comes bugs. Please remind your children to clean up their own messes and keep all food in the lobby.

3) Leaving Early & Absences:

Again, I know it is a busy time a year for everyone. Many students participate in other activities during the spring time. This has resulted in many students missing from class or leaving early as to make it to the next activity on time. This is a problem in several levels. 1) It is not fair to your child to miss critical practice time in the routine. He/she comes back the next week lost and frustrated. 2) It is not fair to the other students. Most of the routines are dependent on everyone being there. It is confusing for those who are in attendance to work around missing dancers. Please remember others are paying for classes as well and if your child is missing, everyone’s class experience is diminished due to confusion and the extra time everyone must spend reviewing the following week for those who missed. 3) It is also not fair to the teacher as we work very hard to construct classes and choreography and it is frustrating to not accomplish what we set out to accomplish because of missing students.

All that said, I do understand sometimes kids get sick. Please keep them home if they are contagious (for obvious reasons). In the event your child has an injury that prevents them from dancing, please bring them anyway as they can sit and watch class and at the very least, will be familiar with the routines and any additions to them.

Thank you for your attention to these issues.

Ms. Jamie
